Overview

The following self-learning modules will focus on the respective learning outcomes.

At the end of Module 1: Introduction to Mentoring and Giving Effective Feedback, the learner should be able to:

  • Discuss the characteristics of a good mentor
  • Identify the responsibilities of a mentor
  • Identify the responsibilities of a mentee
  • Discuss the principles of giving effective feedback

The module consists of following Learning Objects and it may take approximately 90 minutes of your time to complete. The Learning Objects are:

Review of readings (Anaesthesiology):

Providing Effective Feedback:

  • Twelve Tips for Giving Feedback Effectively in the Clinical Environment

Developing Reflection and Mentors' Metacognition:

  • Gibb's Model of the Reflective Cycle
  • Developing Metacognition Through Effective Feedback
  • Learning Reflections

Scaffolding to Operationalising Mentoring, Supervising and Coaching: 

  • Skill-will Matrix


At the end of Module 2: Emotional Intelligence and Resolving Challenges, the learner should be able to:

  • Discuss the 4 components of EI (Emotional Intelligence)
  • Using EI to resolve challenges
  • Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset
  • How to benefit from an effective mentor / mentee relationship

The module consists of following Learning Objects and it may take approximately 60 minutes of your time to complete. The Learning Objects are:

Emotional Intelligence:

  • What is Emotional Intelligence and Why is it Important? (Video)
  • Emotional Intelligence Has 12 Elements. Which Do You Need to Work On?
  • The Impact of Emotional Intelligence on Communication Effectiveness - Focus on Strategic Alignment
  • What People (Still) Get Wrong About Emotional Intelligence

Growth vs. Fixed Mindset:

  • Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset (Video)

Once you have completed the modules, there will be a face-to-face sessions (via Zoom) to apply what you have learnt. The facilitators will take you through a practice session applying the methods.
